China harassing Tibetans in name of 'Olympic security'
Dharmshala, Aug 3 (UNI) The Tibetan Solidarity Committee has urged the international community and human rights organisations around the world to press the Chinese government to immediately halt repressive activities being carried out in Tibet on the pertex of "Olympics security".
The Committee demanded restoration of human rights and religious freedom in Tibet.
The Committee, which has been formed by the Tibetan government-in-exile, in a statement released here today said, ''Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration are supporting the Beijing Olympic Games as a fitting tribute to China's ancient civilisation".
" The Tibetans are showing respect to the Chinese people's aspirations,'' the statement said while claiming that in the name of Olympic security, the government of China was stifling the religious freedom and human rights of the Tibetans.
