70 pilgrims killed in stampede at Naina Devi shrine in HP
Bilaspur, Aug 3 (UNI) At least 70 pilgrims were killed in a stampede this morning at the Naina Devi shrine in the district after a railing at an entrance gave way under the weight of the Sunday crowd.
About 200 others were injured.
According to information at the police district control room here, the stampede occurred after a railing leading to the Singh Gate entrance of the shrine gave way under the weight of pilgrims who were waiting their turn to pay obeisance. As the railing collapsed a number of pilgrims including women and children rolled down the hill while others ran helter skelter to save themselves.
