S African national held with 62,890 US Dollars at IGI Arpt
New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) A South African national has been arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport by the airport customs authorities while trying to smuggle foreign currency of 62,890 US dollars.
Commissioner of Customs M K Gupta today said that 20-year-old South African Emefiele Evans was carrying illegal foreign currency of 62,890 US Dollars (Rs 26,00,000), which was concealed in the waist belt of his trousers and the inner sole of his shoe, when he was intercepted by custom officials at the exit gate of the arrival hall of the IGI airport yesterday.
The currency was seized from Mr Evans, who was arrested under the relevant provisions of the customs act.
Mr Gupta said the South African had arrived in Delhi from Capetown via Doha by a Qatar Airways Flight.
