Pune, Aug 1 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu today said the package of Rs 1,500 crore, announced during the railways budget, for the development of railways works under Pune Division will start soon.
Speaking to the mediapersons after visiting the various facilities of Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN) here, Mr Velu said the passenger safety was of prime concern and the ministry would soon deploy women police personnel of Railways Police Force (RPF) for the protection of passengers travelling in ladies compartment in Mumbai suburban trains.
The Minister inspected the new Institute building coming up at the cost of Rs 11.25 crore, which will be integrated with the hostel, eliminating the need for 4 km of commute presently to the Institute near the Pune railway station.
He earlier visited the various facilities of IRICEN, where he appreciated the arrangements of staying, the mess, the recreation room and the sports complex.
Mr Velu addressed all the faculty and trainee officers undergoing training at IRICEN and officials of Pune Division in the auditorium.
