Army has been called in to stem newly erupted protests in Jammu and Samba districts following agitation on Amarnath land row, official sources said. The Army staged a flag march here this morning after tension gripped Jammu with people defying curfew restrictions to protest for restoration of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).

Sadhvi Ritambra and Uma Bharti, who were scheduled to address a public rally and press here, were not allowed to move out of the Jammu Airport after their arrival, reports said here.

''Army troops from the 26 'Tiger' Division of IX Corps are deployed in Jammu on request to assist the civil administration to contain the situation,'' said, Defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami.

Two people were killed and several injured in police-public clashes yesterday.

Curfew had been re-imposed in Jammu and Samba districts.

People in entire Jammu region are protesting under the banner of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) against the government's decision of revoking the order of diverting forest land to the SASB for erecting prefabricated temporay structure for Amarnath pilgrims in South Kashmir.
