Mumbai, Aug 1 (UNI) Additional Municipal Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) R A Rajiv today said the corporation had collected Rs five lakh in fines from erring contractors.
Speaking at a news briefing here, Mr Rajiv said the contractors had been fined for failing to fill up the potholes within the stipulated period of time.
''The contractors have been fined initially and if they continue their act, they will be blacklisted forever,'' he said.
Mr Rajiv had issued a circular last week, asking the contractors to get all the potholes repaired within 24 hours of the receipt of a complaint, failing which they would be fined.
According to official estimates, of the 5,951 potholes detected in the metropolis, 5,679 had been repaired following the complaints.
The BMC had alloted Rs one crore each to all the 24 wards for repairing of the potholes.
