16 kg heroin seized in Punjab
Ferozpur, Aug 2 (UNI) The security agencies recovered 16 kg heroin at two different places in Punjab and arrested a smuggler in this connection.
In the first incident, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 10 kg heroin from close to the Indo-Pakistan border in the Mamdot sector last night.
BSF DIG M P Wassan told mediapersons today that the seizure was made by the jawans of Border Outpost (BOP) Nath. He said the heroin had been dumped in Indian territory by Pakistani smugglers.
The DIG said that the contraband was to reitrieved by Indian drug carriers, but they never showed up. This was the second heroin seizure in this area in the last one week. A few days back four kg was recovered near Nath BOP.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered by the Punjab Police. No arrests had been made so far.
In the second incident, six kg heroin was seized by the pecial Narcotics Cell of the Punjab Police near Jandiala town in Amritsar district today. The carrier of the drug, identified as Swaran Singh of Daoke village was taken into custody and later arrested under the nDPS Act.
