Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), Aug.1 : A tailor in Vijayawada has prepared the Indian Tricolour measuring 141 X 94 feet. It is being claimed to be the biggest national flag ever made in the country.
Abdul Rasheed has designed the giant flag with assistance from five people. He has used about 1,400 square feet of Jaipur silk cloth and the entire expenses to prepare it being borne by him.
It is been 20 days since when the preparations to design the flag were started. Presently, it is being given the finishing touch. Rasheed wants to unveil and unfurl this national flag on Independence Day (August15).
The special flag, weighing 102 kilograms, requires 1,000 individuals to carry it.
Rasheed, in his mid-forties, had a long cherished dream to demonstrate his love for the country. And, by making such a giant flag, he feels he will be able to publicly showcase his deep love and respect for the country.
Moreover, Rasheed wants to dedicate his laborious creation to the physical handicapped community of the country.
"I am a tailor and I wanted to do something innovative. So I made such a huge national flag. I have spent my own money in making this flag and this has given me pleasure as well it has satisfied my spirit of nationalism. Secondly, I want to dedicate this flag to the physical handicapped people on August 15, 2008," said Abdul Rasheed.
Rasheed tells that he derived inspiration for such a flag after watching Pakistani cricket fans carrying a huge flag during a match in 2004. He immediately made up his mind to prepare one for his own country-- India.
At this, he resolved to design the Indian flag that would surpass the size of the Pakistan flag he had seen on the TV screen. And, he successfully did it in 2005.
Residents are all praise for Rasheed's endeavour and patriotic spirit. And, everyone wants to extent his or her support to him in his attempt to make a record for the biggest Indian Tricolour.
The work for preparing the giant flag used to start by 10 o'clock in the night when there was no one in the streets.
"We are happy to be associated with this flag. He is a small time tailor with a big vision and patriotism in heart. As citizens of India, we want to help and co-operate with Rasheed and that's the reason we are working with him," said A.R. Prabhakar, a resident of Vijayawada.
In 2006, Abdul Rasheed had prepared the national flag measuring 365 square feet. By Narendra
