Non-Cong MLAs call of fast in Pondy
Puducherry, Aug 1 (UNI) The proposed fast today, to press the implementation of the promises made on the floor of the House, by non-Congress legislators here was dropped following a request from Lt Governor Govind Singh Gurjar.
According to CPI sources, non-Congress legislators, who announced the agitation, called on the Lt Governor yesterday and submitted a memorandum requesting him to convene the Legislative Assembly.
Since the Lt Governor had sought a month's time to study the situation, the fast was called off.
Chief Minister N Rangaswamy also requested them not to proceed with the agitation as steps were being taken for the implementation of the promises.
The DMK and PMK members had already pulled out of the agitation following directions from the party high command while the AIADMK had not participated in the meeting where a decision was taken to hold the fast.
