Inspector involved in extortion produced before court
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Delhi Police Crime Branch today produced before a city court its suspended Inspector who was arrested for allegedly extorting money from kidney kingpin Amit Kumar and his associate Dr Upendra Kumar in the multi-crore racket unearthed earlier this year.
Rameshwar Khatri, Inspector of Delhi Police, had been placed under suspension after the extortion racket was unearthed in February this year.
He was posted with the special staff of Central district and during his tenure his juniors allegedly went to Gurgaon and extorted Rs 19.85 lakh from Dr Upendra.
It is alleged that they had threatened to expose the racket if the money was not coughed up.
He was arrested by a team of Crime Branch on Thursday late night and sent to police remand by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Kumar Kuhar.
On February 14, the Crime Branch had arrrested Ravinder Kumar Singh for allegedly extorting money from Upendra. On March 24, Rakesh and Naresh surrendered before the court. On June 4, Head Constable Virendra and on June 21 Head Constable Vijay Bahadur and constables Kaleem and Surendra had surrendered before a city court in the alleged extortion case and are now behind bars.
