Amritsar, Aug 1 (UNI) The Punjab Government will provide 'pure drinking water' at just 10 paise per litre in all the major cities of the state including the holy city.
This will be made possible after the government implements its prestigious Reverse Osmosis Purified Water Supply system in all the major cities.
This announcement was made here today by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during a 'sangat darshan' programme in the Amritsar South assembly constituency.
On the occasion, Mr Badal handed over a Rs 4 crore cheque to the Amritsar Municipal Corporation for completing the on going works related to strengthening of roads, installation of tubewells, street lights, sewerage system and supply of clean drinking water.
Mr Badal announced that the long pending demand of people of the constituency for covering the drain carrying sullage from Khazana Gate area would soon be fulfilled and a project worth Rs 495 lakh would be initiated for the same.
Seeking cooperation and support from the public for the success of various Government projects, the Chief Minister asked the people to observe restraint from throwing garbage in the streets and also suggested installing CFLs to save energy.
Later Talking to mediapersons, Mr Badal denied reports that his government was contemplating shifting the proposed World Class Central University from Amritsar to Bathinda. "There is no such plan and this University will come up in the holy city", he added.
