Bardhan commends India's stand in Geneva talks
Kochi, Aug 1: CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan on Friday August 1 commended the Indian delegation for resisting ''arm twisting'' by the US and the EU at the ''mini-ministerial'' talks in Geneva to complete the Doha Round of WTO trade talks.
Addressing a ''meet-the-press'' organised by the Ernakulam Press Club here, Mr Bardhan said, ''I am glad that the Indian delegation did not fall a victim to this (the US and EU demands).'' However, this only exposed the danger to India's agricultural sector by the developed countries' demand to reduce subsidies, he said. ''We have to be vigilant and stand together with other developing countries such as China and Brazil to fight these pressures,'' he added.
