Australia made a blunder: Tanvir

By Staff

Lahore, Aug 1 (UNI) Praising Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne, rising star Sohail Tanvir has said Australia made a blunder by not offering Test captaincy to the spin legend.

Sohail recalled how Warne went on to lead a bunch of no-hopers to the Indian Premier League (IPL) title defying all odds and said the fact that Warne was never offered the Australian captaincy on a long-term basis baffled him.

''It was a great experience to play under Warne. He extracts the best out of the players as he lifted the trophy with a mediocre team.

''Australia did the mistake of their life by not making Warne the captain of their team,'' the left-arm pacer told Khaleej Times.

''He has the best knowledge of the game and is a very cooperative captain,'' Tanvir added.

Tanvir was particularly impressed with Warne's handling of the colts.

''A lot of youngsters prospered under his guidance during the tournament. It was an unforgettable experience for me and it will go a long way as far as my career is concerned,'' Tanvir added.
