Hyderabad, Jul 31 (UNI) In a novel protest, a village Sarpanch today climbed a 50-meter-high cell tower and threatened to jump off, demanding that the government must supply fertilizers to farmers immediately, at Shilapur village of Bejjanki Mandal in Karim Nagar district, 200 km from here today.
Police said the local body representative Venkataiah climbed the tower, threatening that he would jump off if the State Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy did not assure supply of fertilizers to all farmers in the village by evening.
In support of the Sarpanch, the local farmers also staged a sit-in agitation in front of the tower and demanded that the Government concede their demand.
Meanwhile, district revenue officials rushed to the spot and convinced him. Mr Venkataiah climbed down from the tower after receiving an assurance from the officials.
