Surat, Jul 31 (UNI) The famed textile industry in Surat has lost Rs 200 crore in the last two days due to panic spread among people in the wake of detection of bombs and subsequent closure of business in the city.
Meanwhile, life has returned to normal today with educational and business establishments functioning as usual.
Chetan Shah, president of Surat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told UNI that textile industry was the worst-affected due to detection of bombs in the city. The industry suffered average loss of Rs 100 crore per day during the time of terror.
''Other major industry of the city is diamond industry. The diamond units were closed but they are not expected to register any substantial loss as the diamond industry's demand is fixed, which can be recovered soon after the units resume work,'' he said.
According to Mr Shah, the industry leaders will meet in coming days to chalk out a permanent plan to beef up security at the business establishements.
