Amritsar, Jul 31 (UNI) The Punjab police has arrested five people and recovered Rs 7 lakh that was looted from a local bank in June this year.
In this daring daylight robbery, a bank van containing Rs 37 lakh was hijacked at pistol point outside Dana Mandi branch of State Bank of India (SBI). A case was registered in the Police Station, C Division.
Giving details here today SSP Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said that a Special Investigation Team was set up to investigate the various angles of this case. Four teams were also sent to Delhi and other states to nab the dacoits.
During investigations the police team arrested one Anil Kumar of Delhi, Dalbir Singh alias Boxer of Chheharta and Jasbir Singh alias Raju of Delhi and recovered Rs 7 lakh and a pistol from their posesssion.
On the basis of their disclosure, the police arrested two women Rachhpal Kaur and Kulbir Kaur of Amritsar, who were also involved in the robbery.
Other members of this gang, who were involved in this case, were Amarjit Singh of Amritsar, Sunil Kumar of Delhi, Sajan Singh and Raj Sharma of Amritasar, Vijay Kumar of Garhshankar and Ajay Kumar of Bihar.
The SSP said that this gang had committed a number of bank robberies in Delhi, Punjab, Western UP, Haryana and other states.
