Hamirpur, Jul 31 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government is considering to formulate an elaborate plan to plant fruit plants like mango and syzysiun cumini (Jamun) saplings on the National and State Highways.

"The state had rich tradition of carrying out plantation on way side besides road side planting of broad leaved trees like peepal to provide shelter to people during summer season. This age old tradition should be revived for protecting the environment," Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said while addressing a public meeting at Tauni Devi today.

Mr Dhumal said that the state government had entered into an agreement to supply Aambla, Vehra, Harad and other medicinal produce to the Patanjli Yog Peeth of Swami Ram Dev.

"Swami Ram Dev during his visit to Himachal Pradesh had expressed the desire to set up herbal medicinal plant in the state and the state government had welcomed the proposal. It was Swamiji's desire that the state should supply his medicinal pharmacy, basic raw material of Aambla, Vehra, Harad etc. which is in great demand," he said.

He said that besides Patanjli Yog Peeth, many other pharmaceutical companies were also looking for adequate raw material for manufacturing herbal medicines.
