Chandigarh, Jul 31 (UNI) The Haryana Government has invited recommendations for the Swami Rama Humanitarian Award for the year 2008 to be conferred upon institutions or individuals in recognition of their outstanding contribution in economic, environmental, scientific, social and spiritual development of humanity.
The award has been instituted by the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, Dehradun in the memory of its founder Dr Swami Rama.
The award comprises Rs 1.51 lakh, a citation and a plaque.
An individual or an institution, who has rendered service for social, economic and political transformation for amelioration of human sufferings, especially for the less privileged sections of the society, would be considered for the award by the jury headed by former Chief Justice of India MN Venkatachaliah, an official spokesman said.
Recent achievements made within last ten years would be considered for the award. Older works might be considered, if its significance has become apparent only recently. Any written work, to be eligible for consideration, should have been published.
The recommendations in this regard should be sent to the state gvernment by August 16.
