Congress demand for special session of Assembly

Gandhinagar, Jul 31: A meeting of the Gujarat Congress Legislative Assembly Party members, convened here on Wednesday, July 30, demanded for a special session of the Assembly for five days to have a debate on terrorism and law and order situation.

The meeting, presided over by Leader of the Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil. The party condemned the serial bomb blasts that took place in Ahmedabad and extended its complete cooperation to combat terrorism. They demanded that in the wake of the recent terror strikes in Gujarat and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, a special session of the Assembly be summoned and a resolution passed unanimously to combat terrorism.

The meeting requested both the Chief Minister and the Speaker to summon a special session for five days so as to enable the elected representatives to give their valuable suggestions and to introspect the pros and cons of ''our system''. The members also resolved to forward a list containing their names, telephone numbers and blood groups to the government hospitals, so that they could be called to donate blood to the hospital, in case of emergency.

The meeting was attended, among others, by AICC Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy, GPCC President Siddharth Patel, GPCC working Presidents Kunwarjibhai Bavaliya and Dr Tusharbhai Chaudhary, besides Dy Leader of the Opposition Mohansinh Rathwa, whip Jagdishbhai Thakor and all MLAs.
