Manipal, Karnataka, July 30 (UNI) The authorities of Manipal University, whose MBBS degree courses were de-recognised by Medical Council of India, today clarified that it had met all criteria during the inspection by the council officials.

Dr. H S Ballal, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Manipal University said that Kasturba Medical Colleges (KMC) at both Manipal and Mangalore, the flag ship institution of the university, had fulfilled all criteria as per the norms specified by MCI and there was absolutely no scope for derecognising of MBBS course awarded by it.

In a press release issued here he expressed surprise over the media reports on the MCI derecognising the MBBS courses offered by the university.

"We are surprised by the purported statement from MCI, at a point in time when the matter is under consideration from higher authorities. Kasturba Medical College (KMC) fulfills all the inspection criteria as per the norms specified by MCI - be it faculty quality, staff strength, teaching infrastructure, hospital infrastructure, hospital utilisation, student education or care facilities," he said.

He said that KMC was amongst the top Medical institutes in India, providing world-class education and care facilities to the students.

It has been consistently featured amongst the top 5 Medical colleges in India, for the last few decades in a row.

"We pride ourselves about the world-class medical education facilities, faculty and the alumni. The Quality of our education is fittingly reflected in our Alumni. We have produced eminent physicians and surgeons in India as well as the world over. We have continuously enhanced the investments in our infrastructure and academic delivery and committed to continue to do so", he said.

Dr Ballal said that the institution had a stellar international standing and over 5000 alumni of KMC were the members of AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin). Over 20 per cent of all doctors in Malaysia were KMC Alumni. The university's international medical programs were conducted with proper authorization from UGC and similar government authorised regulatory bodies, he said.

He claimed KMC was the only medical college in India that was also recognised by the New York State Education Board and all of the above underline its credibility and standing amongst the Medical fraternity in India and the world over.
