'Smoke free' Chandigarh to become 'plastic free' from Oct 2
Chandigarh, Jul 30 (UNI) After making 'city beautiful' smoke-free, now the Chandigarh administration is ready to make the city plastic free.
In a notification issued today, the Union Territory (UT) administration has decided that from October 2 no person including shopkeeper, vendor, wholeseller, trader and hawker would use polythene or plastic carry bags.
The administration has further decided that no person will manufacture, store, import, sell or transport plastic carry bags in the UT.
Chandigarh Administrator General (Retd) SF Rodrigues has directed officers concerned for the implementation of the orders relating to the use, storage, import, selling, transportation and disposal of polythene and plastic carry bags in the UT. The further authorised the officers to file complaints under section 19 of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 incase of any breach of the above given orders.
