Srinagar, Jul 30 (UNI) Under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) a Water Supply Scheme (WSS) is coming up in north Kashmir at a cost of Rs 3.61 crore.
Chief Engineer Public Health Engineering (PHE) said the department has conceived this Gulshanabad-Maidanpora WSS to augment the water supply in the area.
About the shortage of drinking water, he said due to the growth of population and extensions of the areas, there is some shortage of water supply which has further aggravated owing to misuse of water for irrigation of vegetable gardens by the residents.
However, he denied the outbreak of any epidemic in Shahgund village as was alleged.
He said the matter has been verified by the Block Medical Officer, Hajjan who has reported no outbreak of epidemic in the area.
However, he said, the department as a precaution has collected the water samples from all the sources of water supply in the area and sent these to testing laboratory.
