Purnima Mahato selected as Indian Archery team coach

Jamshedpur, Jul 30 (UNI ) Purnima Mahato, coach of Tata Archery Academy (TAA), has been selected as the coach of the Indian Archery team that will represent the country at the Beijing Olympics next month.

According to a TAA communique released here this evening, this was the first time that a coach of the academy had been given the responsibility of a coach of the Indian team at the Olympics.

An accomplished archer, Purnima won a gold medal (Team) in the International Archery Championship held at Bangkok in 1993.

She has several other International achievements to her credit.

She joined Tata Steel in 1994 and had been coaching the cadets of the Tata Archery Academy ever since.

She had been one of the most successful coaches in guiding Indian Archery teams in the International arena.

In 2005, she accompanied the Indian Archery team to Spain for the 43rd Senior World Outdoor Archery Championship, where India won a Silver medal.

She was the coach of the Indian team which won a gold medal for the boy's event and a bronze medal for the girls at the Senior Asian Archery Championship in China in 2007.

Her latest achievement as a coach was at the 2nd World Cup Archery held at Croatia in 2008, where the Indian team won a silver medal and a bronze Medal.
