Centre failed to meet farmers' demands: BJP
Tirupati, July 30 (UNI) BJP National Secretary Nallu Indrasena Reddy today alleged that the UPA Government at the Centre and the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh had ''failed'' to meet farmers' demands.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Reddy said the Congress-led UPA Government had brought out an action plan for agriculture sector but ''failed'' to implement it.
He claimed that the party had cautioned the State Government over the shortage of pesticides and seeds several times but the Centre had set them aside. It had failed to take any decision on the purchasing policy for providing subsidies to companies for importing seeds and pesticides.
The Centre had also failed to take steps to procure seeds and allocated only Rs 40,000 crore in the budget against the required Rs 1.20 lakh crore, he alleged.
