Banderdewa-Itanagar highway to be closed temporarily
Itanagar, Jul 30 (UNI) A portion of National Highway 52A, from Banderdewa to Itanagar, will be closed for two days from August 2 to enable the state Public Works Department (PWD) to undertake renovation of the damaged road at Karsingsa.
The NH-52A, which is the lifeline of the twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlogun, had been damaged at Karsinghsa following the recent incessant rains and overflowing of the Dikrong river, PWD sources said.
The PWD has planned to widen the road by cutting the hill on the other side of the road which will take at least two days time, if weather permits, the sources informed, adding that the damage could suddenly block the NH-52A, if the work was not undertaken immediately.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Papum Pare district has issued a public notice in this regard and directed all vehicles to be driven along alternate routes from Gumto (Via Harmuti) or Holongi (via Gohpur) to reach Itanagar during the two days of road closure, the sources added.
