Jammu, Jul 30 (UNI) The Army has further increased vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region after Pakistan troops violated ceasefire and attempted to intrude into the Nowgam sector in Kashmir, an official spokesman today said.
''We have been alert on the LoC after infiltration bids from areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts on this side of Pir Panjal range, but the vigil has been further increased after the Nowgam incident in Kashmir,'' an official spokesman told UNI.
''Our object is to maintain the sanctity of the LoC at any cost,'' the spokesman maintained.
The LoC in Jammu region -- on the southern side of Pri Panjal mountainous range -- comes under the XVI ''White Kinght'' Corps of the Northern Command of Army while XV ''Chinar'' Corps mans the LoC in Kashmir region.
A group of Pakistani soldiers today allegedly breached again the LoC in Nowgam sector of North Kashmir district of Kupwara.
"Pakistan soldiers again fired at our post in Nowgam, but our troops are maintaining restraint,'' the spokesman said.
''We have conveyed to the Pakistani troops on hotline to stop firing so that the situation does not escalate," he added.
The trouble started on monday afternoon, when a group of 10-12 Pakistani troops entered into the Indian side and fired at the Indian post in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district. In retaliation, the Army shot dead three Pakistani troops while a jawan of 22 Rajput Regiment was killed in the firing.
