Hyderabad, July 30 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today criticised the remarks of opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders that the Congress Government had thrown the state into darkness.

Addressing a press conference here , party spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said the TDP leaders were making baseless allegations though the power sector in the state had developed manifold and secured national awards for its efficiency.

He said the power generation, which was 10,696 MW during 2003-04, had increased to 12,339 MW during 2008-09. The consumption had increased to 177 million units per day during 2007-08 as against 157 million units in 2003-04, he added.

Stating that the consumption for the agriculture sector had increased by 11,029 units per year, he said the consumption was 57,464 million units during 2006-07 as against 46,435 million units during 2003-04.

He said the TDP Government had supplied seven hours of power to the farmers by taking electricity charges, but the Congress Government has been supplying free power supply to the agriculture sector for the last four years.

Stating that the State Government has been supplying power supply to the domestic and industrial sectors without increasing the tariff for the last four years, he said the TDP Government had increased the tariff eight times during its nine-year rule.

He also denied the charges of the TDP leaders that the Government had reduced the security cover for the TDP leaders.
