Bhubaneswar, Jul 29 (UNI) Elections to 93 Urban local bodies in Orissa will be held before the end of September, state Election Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Hota said.
Elections are due in 96 ULBs as their tenure would complete by September 30.
The election to the ULBs was finalised at an all-party meeting convened by the state Election Commission here yesterday.
Mr Hota said electronic voting machines would be used in these elections. The candidates interested to contest the elections would have to file an affidavit stating their property, educational qualifications and criminal records if any at the time of filing their nominations.
The nomination papers could be rejected if the affidavit was found incomplete.
Like the Parliamentary and Assembly elections, Observers would be appointed to oversee the smooth conduct of the elections.
For the first time, senior officers of the Finance Department would be appointed to scrutinise the election expenditure of the candidates.
A candidate could spend Rs 40,000 if the population of the ULB was within 50,000 to one lakh and Rs 50,000 if the population was more than 50,000.
After the elections, 45 days time would be given to file review petitions.
