Surat, Jul 29: The city police found three more live bombs in the Varachha area here on Tuesday, July 29 morning which were later promptly defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad, three days after 21 orchestrated bomb blasts killed at least 50 people in Gujarat's major city of Ahmedabad.
The first bomb was planted in a provision store's shutter located just behind the Labeshwar Police Chowky. As soon as the shopowner opened the shutter of his shop this morning he noticed the hanging bomb and informed the police immediately. Varachha police received another message from the Baroda Prestige area that a bomblike object was found in an electric metre there. The team rushed there found that it is wrapped in a packet, which was also later defused by the bomb disposal squad.
As soon as information was received between 0900 hrs and 1000 hrs, teh DCP(Crime) and the Varachha Police Inspector rushed to the spot and cordoned off the areas. The third call was received by the police that a suspicious looking packet similar to a bomb was lying on a treetop under Matawadi Police Chowky under the Varachha area. A police team along with a bomb squad rushed there and found an unexploded bomb which was also defused by the team.
Police sources said all the defused bombs collected from three locations were taken to the police station for further investigation. This was the fifth live bomb recovered from Varachha area since Sunday--all were planted in nearby localities under Varachha which is the main hub of diamond trade. Varachha police had also seized two explosives-laden cars from two different locations in the Varachha area on Sunday.
