Southern Railway tightens security
Chennai, July 29 (UNI) The Southern Railway has beefed up security arrangements in close co-ordination with the Government Railway Police, RPF and the State police in the interest of passenger safety and security following the serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
A Southern Railway release here said adequate strength of RPF staff had been mobilised and posted at all important railway stations especially on platforms, passenger waiting halls, circulating and concourse hall and parking lots and conspicuous presence was ensured.
Senior officials have been deployed at important stations to monitor the arrangements.
Close surveillance was kept on movement of suspicious people on platforms, waiting halls, circulating hall, through CCTV network wherever available and by posting plain cloths personnel to keep a discreet watch.
An RPF Dog Squad, consisting of sniffer dogs, had been pressed into service. Constant vigil was being kept at all access points and security in important suburban stations in Chennai Division like Mambalam, Tambaram were strengthened by mobilising additional force.
