HAU speeds up efforts to check congress grass
Hisar, Jul 29 (UNI) Taking a serious view of the menace of parthenium, popularly known as congress grass, the Extension Education Directorate of Ch Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University has steped up its efforts to eradicate this grass from the state.
While disclosing this today, Dr R K Alik, Director, Extension Education, said the grass, which is proving hazardous to human health and local vegetables and crops had spread over an area of 8, to 10 million hectares in the country.
It would pose a serious threat to the entire fauna and flora of the country in the years to come unless steps were taken to check it, he added.
Giving details of the efforts being made by the University to eradicate this grass, he said Agriculture Science Centre of the University situated at Sadalpur had created awareness amongst the farmers of Mohabatpur, Mohabatpur Dhani, Sadalpur, Bagla and Siswal villages about the ill effects of the congress grass. The farmers were also educated about the various methods of eradicating this grass.
Farmers were advised to uproot the grass before flowering. On getting it dried, it should be burnt, he said.
