Kolkata, Jul 29 (UNI) Struggling East Bengal returned to victory by a slender margin defeating Chirag United 1-0 in the Sahara Premier league here today.
The lone goal was scored by striker Ashim Biswas at the beginning of second half giving East Bengal full three points to jack up its position to the fourth place with 8 points from five matches in eight-team league tournament.
Chirag have so far managed to get four points from five outings.
Mohammedan Sporting are now leading the table with 12 points from five plays, followed by Mohun Bagan with 10 points from five games.
After 1-3 defeat to Md Sporting and 1-1 aginst George Telegraph, East Bengal had to struggle to clinch the match in favour.
Though addition of Ghanaian defender Suleh Musa had added strength to its defence, East Bengal midfield was yet to combine well to scheme proper moves.
