Complainant gives evidence against Daya Nayak and others
Mumbai, Jul 29 (UNI) The complainant today deposed in a local court against former encounter specialist Daya Nayak, stating that he was held under illegal detention by the latter for two days who then demanded extortion money from him.
Mohammed Tariq Khan told the Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Bandra that Daya Nayak and other police officers had picked him up from Bandra-Kurla Complex in 1997 and took him to Chandanwadi police station at Andheri in western suburbs.
Initially, they had demanded Rs two lakh for his release from the custody. After receiving the payment, they had released him. But, after a few days, Nayak again demanded Rs one lakh as, according to him, he had received lesser amount after distribution of the money among top level officials.
At this point of time, Khan had recorded the conversation between him and Nayak. On the basis of the conversation, the victim approached the Human Rights Commission, which directed the State CID to investigate the matter and register a case against the guilty.
On the basis of a CID report, the court issued the process and today recorded the complainant's statement and then adjourned the matter till August 20 for recording of the statement of other witnesses in the case.
