All the 13 acquitted in the stripping case
Udupi, July 29 (UNI) All the 13 accused persons in the stripping case of two persons at Adi Udupi on March 8, 2005 near here have been acquitted by the Fast Track Court here today.
Pronouncing the judgment at the Fast Track Court, Judge Shivalingegowda said that all the 13 accused including one person already dead were acquitted for the lack of suitable evidences.
The incident had grabbed state level importance and the issue even rose in the state Assembly. The then Congress-JD(S) coalition government, bowing to the pressure from the progressive organizations, ordered for CoD inquiry.
On the night of May 8, 2005, a group of Hindu activists under Hindu Yuva Sena allegedly stripped two persons at Adi Udupi near here for allegedly transporting illegally cattle from Malpe. Police had booked 13 persons in this connection and the CoD which conducted the inquiry collected about 30 witness in the case.
