Tea auction witnesses good demand in all four varieties
Kolkata, Jul 28 (UNI) The Kolkata tea market auction, held on July 21-23, registered encouraging response as all of the four varieties were very much in demand.
A Kolkata Brokers' Joint Statistics department release issued here today stated that the CTC variety sold at firm rates as local dealers remained active throughout the auctioning. About 23,86,582 kgs of CTC tea was auctioned.
Darjeeling tea was also in good demand as traditional exporters lent support. UK and Japan remained the most selective destinations to export the variety, registering a sale of 1,71,915.25 kgs.
Though in good demand by the Middle East and CIS, the orthodox variety remained popular mainly with the local buyers, with 7,58,164.70 kgs being sold.
The dust variety also did good business in the Kolkata market with Tata tea lending active support. About 9,68,859.30 kgs of dust tea was auctioned.
