Soldier killed in Pak firing on LoC in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 28 (UNI) An Indian soldier was killed when a group of Pakistani troops opened fire while fleeing back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara.

A defence ministry spokesman told UNI that there was firing and details were awaited.

He said a group of armed Pakistani soldiers in uniform holding a white flag entered this side of the border in Kupwara sector this afternoon.

They were demanding removal of a bunker on this side, the spokesman said, adding one of them was in civil dress.

When they were returning to PoK, they opened fire on our troops, in which one of the soldiers was injured.

Further details were awaited, he said.

However, official sources said intermittent firing between the troops of India and Pakistan was on when the reports last came in.
