Police denies issue of any warnings to people in Pune
Pune, Jul 28 (UNI) The city police today said they have not issued any warning in the backdrop of a widely-circulated SMS, which claimed that the police have asked the citizens not to go in central areas like Fergusson College, Mahatama Gandhi Road, Dagadu Seth Mandir and other religious places.
Joint Commissioner of Police R A Sonawane said they have not circulated any such SMS or warning and some people are spreading rumours via their mobiles. ''We will not stop citizens from visiting religious places or anywhere else in the city. The police have appealed to citizens to avoid such rumours and have asked them to inform the Police Control room immediately, if they receive any such SMS,'' Mr Sonawane said.
City went into a high alert from Saturday evening, after serial blasts rocked Ahmedabad. The Police and BDDS teams were dispatched to check locations like the Railway Station, bus depots, Airport and places of religious importance. ''The Police teams, BDDS teams and dog squads are all on alert. We have also directed the cyber cafe owners to keep a tab on their users by asking for an ID,'' Mr Sonawane said.
Meanwhile, Police have lodged a non-cognizable offence at Khadak Police Station against unknown persons for spreading rumours.
