Md Sporting win derby match vs Mohun Bagan 2-1 to take pole

Kolkata, Jul 28 (UNI) A self-goal sealed Mohun Bagan's fate against Mohameddan Sporting in the crucial Sahara Premier Division League at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here today.

Md Sporting surged ahead with a Theodore Wrobeh goal from a penalty on the 22nd minute and Mohun Bagan levelled the score through Lalwmpuiya on the 55th minute.

But the black-white had the last laugh when Mohun Raj shot home while clearing an attack during added time, sending a shock wave among club fans in the huge stadium.

The win jacked up Md Sporting to pole position with twelve points from five games and Mohun Bagan for the first time came down to the second spot with 10 points, also from five matches.

In the first half, Md Sporting, who last won the cup in 1981, took command of the game attacking in tandem through foreign recruits Mike Okoro and Teo. The latter was deadly because his run with the ball and footworks.

A Chance came at the 21st minute, latching on a centre pass from Nigerian Okoro. Liberian Theo moved into the danger area but was tripped by Peter Odafe.

Referee Rathin Mukherjee called for apenalty and Teo made no mistake to shot home 1-0 on 22 minute defeating Sangram Mukherjee on his left.

This was Theo's four goal in five matches. He scored two in the 3-1 win, in another derby match against East Bengal last week.

Mohun Bagan equalised 10 minutes from half-time when Lalwmpuiya shot home, defeating Md Sporting custodian Nashim Akhtar after receiving a pass from Mama, who got an advance from Barreto.

Mohun Bagan, before being doomed by the own-goal, were undefeated in Sahara Trophy this season, had three scoring chances. Once golie Nashim Akhtar nicely fisted out a header from Jose Ramirez Barreto and in another occasion the post deprived them a header from Lalwmpuiya on 62 minute.

As everyone was gearing to pack home, the stadium roared again as Mohun Bagan defender Mohan Raj chasing a ball to clear from rival Bimal Parihar shot home in amazement of advancing golie Sangram Mukherjee giving his side a shock defeat.

The first and last goals of the day were due to lapses of Bagan defenders.
