Srinagar, Jul 28 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today ordered a judicial probe into cremation of the mortal remains of Kuldeep Kumar Verma at Bishnah, early on July 24, allegedly without respecting the religious sanctity of the occasion.
Verma committed suicide in protest against the cancellation of land alloted to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
A spokesman of the Raj Bhawan this evening said that the Governor has taken note of the conflicting versions of the Police and the relatives of the deceased and the strong public sentiments on this issue and decided to ascertain the truth through a judicial probe.
The inquiry shall be conducted under the Commission of Enquiries Act by Justice O P Sharma, Retired Judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, and the report submitted within three months.
Meanwhile, the Governor has ordered transfer of Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar.
He also directed that the concerned Superintendent of Police, In-charge Bishnah area, be also attached forthwith, pending the judicial inquiry.
Mr Vohra has also directed the Principal Secretary, Home, Anil Goswami, and Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khuda, to camp in Jammu to oversee the overall situation and take steps to create an environment congenial for the restoration of normalcy.
