Srinagar, Jul 28 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (M) today demanded enhancement of wages of workers, working on Uhdmapur- Srinagar rail line.
The State secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Targami addressing a public meeting at Sangaldan highlighted the burning issues facing the railway workers.
He demanded enhancement of wages of railway workers, recruitment of local youth on the project, adequate compensation to those who had provided land for the railway track and those whose land is being used by the railway authorities for dumping waste material.
Mr Tarigami urged upon the railway authorities to grant trade union rights to the workers.
Referring to the realignment of the railway line, he said that it would adversely affect the dozens of surrounding villages.
Commenting on the present situation in Jammu region, Mr Tarigami castigated the state administration for its alleged failure in handling the situation.
He said that the administration mishandled the situation and remained insensitive to the genuine concerns of the people.
Mr Tarigami cautioned the administration not to use force indiscriminately and instead open up all channels of communication and dialogue with all sections of people.
He appealed to Governor to convene an all party meeting so that genuine grievances of the people are redressed.
