Chandigarh, Jul 28 (UNI) The Congress would launch a mass contact and awareness programme in Punjab about the benefits of the Indo-US Nuclear agreement for the industry, farmers, traders and the commonman.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President (PPCC) Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said in a party meeting today that the Akalis had committed ''political harakiri'' by opposing the nuclear agreement and have bartered the interest of the State.
The Congress has decided to gear up the total party machinery in this fortnight-long mass awareness campaign so that the people of the State may judge for themselves their ''friends and foes,'' she said.
The campaign would kick-start from Fatehgarh Sahib on August 1, to be followed by district level rallies and would culminate on August 15 at village Issru in Ludihana district at the annual Shaheedi conference.
Ms Bhattal has convened a meeting of the PPCC office bearers and Executive members, Presidents of the District Congress Committees on July 31 in the Punjab Congress Bhawan at Chandigarh to chalk out the nuclear awareness programme in detail.
