Centre considering uniform policy on speed governors
New Delhi, Jul 28 (UNI) The Centre today informed the Supreme Court that it has convened a meeting of all State Transport Ministers and Transport Secretaries to chalk out a uniform national policy on the installation of speed governors in all the vehicles, both new and old.
Advocate General of Karnataka also informed the apex court that the state was implementing the directions of High Court to install speed governors in all the new vehicles, and the old ones will have those by September 30 in the state.
At present, only two states in the country have made the installation of speed governors compulsory, and other states have not made the installation mandatory.
This is an inter-state issue and the Lorry Truck Association is contending that the vehicles from other states are being penalised by Karnataka despite the fact that the speed governors are not mandatory in other states.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam adjourned the hearing till September.
