Tiruchirapalli, Jul 28 (UNI) Though the incidence of polio has been contained to a considerable extent, surveillance and immunisation of migrant population must be stepped up to check the spread of disease, speakers at an interface on polio eradication efforts in Tamil Nadu here felt.
The meeting, jointly organised by India National Polio Plus Committee, Directorate of Public Health and Rotary International District 3000 yesterday, discussed preventive methods to be adopted to sustain the polio-free environment in the state.
In his presidential address, District Collector T Soundiah said the southern states fared much better than the northern counterparts in containing polio. The social stigma attached to polio had also been rooted out through intensive awareness programmes.
In his speech, Immunisation Joint Director G K Durairaj said vaccines for immunisation against diphtheria, whooping cough,tetanus, H influenza type B and hepatitis B would soon be administered at one shot.
