Ahmedabad, Jul 27 (UNI) The death toll in the serial bomb blasts, that rocked Ahmedabad city of Gujarat yesterday, rose to 45 with 15 more people succumbing to injuries at various hospitals today.

Thirty people had been reported killed in the 20 explosions that ripped through the city yesterday, a day after Bangalore was hit by blasts.

Gujarat Health Minister and Government spokesperson Jai Narayan Vyas told UNI this evening that so far, 45 people have lost their lives in the serial bomb blasts.

Mr Vyas said that seeing the critical condition of some of the injured, the death toll could rise further.

The bombs, fitted with timer-devices, were kept inside tiffin boxes and planted in municipal transport buses, bicycles and private cars. The bombs went off between 1845 and 2000 hrs last evening with the first blast occurring at Maninagar, the Assembly Consituency of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

These bombs were triggered off at a specific time with timer-devices, with an intention to maximise human casualties during peak commuting hours. A powerful bomb that exploded at the Civil Hospital killed more than 20 people.
