Modi Cabinet meets at Gandhinagar to review situation

Ahmedabad, Jul 27 (UNI) A Cabinet meeting to review the situation arising out of last evening's serial blasts that rocked Ahmedabad city, leaving 37 dead and 132 injured, begin this morning at Gandhinagar.

Sources said the main issue on the agenda of the Cabinet meeting is to mobilize Central help to deal with the situation.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who presided over the meeting, is likely to assert his demand for a meeting of Chief Ministers on the issue of internal security.

Mr Modi, who visited some of the affected areas late last night, announced payment of Rs five lakh to the families of all those who died in the blasts. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs one lakh to families of each victim.

Preliminary investigations into the blasts have revealed that the terrorists used crude devices with Ammonium Nitrate and iron material like ball bearings and nut bolts to spark off the blasts.

The initial inquiry into the incident has been assigned to the City Crime Branch and the Anti-Terrorism Squad would also join the investigation, the sources said.
