Himachal Government to prepare its own Climate Change Policy
Shimla, Jul 27 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government is contemplating formulating its own ''Clean Climate Policy'' in line with National Action Plan on Climate Change after holding discussions with stakeholders, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, today said.
Presiding over the Power Development Lecture - 2008, organised by the Himachal Power Development Corporation here, he said carbon credits would be realised under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) wherever due and the state government would implement a master transmission plan for evacuation of power for each of the river basin, providing relief to power developers and to save the environment.
Reiterating that the government was making efforts to develop Himachal as ''Power House of the Country'', he said this would ensure reliable and quality power to people, industry and economy at affordable rates.
Mr Dhumal claimed the state had harnessed 6370 MW of hydro power and hydropower projects with 5744 MW capacity were in the pipeline slated for commissioning during the eleventh Five Year Plan.
The government had already initiated the process for harnessing the remaining power potential, which would be completed very soon he said.
The three pronged hydropower development strategy of the government provided for execution of identified projects in the state, joint and private sector.
