Lucknow, Jul 27 (UNI) Plying of heavy and private vehicles have been restricted on national highways, including the Lucknow-Delhi highway-24, for better security arrangements for the Kanwarias.
The Lucknow-Delhi national highway has been reportedly blocked for big and heavy vehicles till August one, Inspector General of Police (IG) (Bareilly zone) Javeed Ahmad said here today.
The routes were closed to avert any accidents that could claim lives of Kanwarias walking through roads at that time, the IG added.
According to reports from Basti, the running of private vehicles has been restricted on Basti-Faizabad national highway till July 30.
Giving this information, Superintendent of Police (SP) Laxmi Narayan Srivastava said the movement of private vehicles have been restricted on the route from late last night till the said date for security of these pedestrians.
Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses would, however, continue to ply normally, the SP added.
Police, homeguards and security officials would also rome in civvies, Mr Srivastava informed.
Over two lakh Kanwarias march and bring water from river Saryu in Ayodhya to here for 'Jalabhishek' in Lord Shivas Bhadreshwar temple during the month of ''Saawan,'' he added.
