Imphal, Jul 26 (UNI) Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed today in Manipur to remember the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the motherland from the Pakistani intruders in 1999.
Seven Manipuri jawans, who were with the Army during the war at Kargil bordering Pakistan, had laid their lives to save the sovereignty of the country, speakers attending a meeting to remember thir sacrifice at Manipur Rifles Parade said.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister P Parijat has placed wreaths at the memorials and lauded the Manipuri youth and other jawans for sacrificing their lives for the country.
Senior Army and civil officers also attended the function to commemorate the day. A patriotic song was presented by the students of Sri Sri Bal Mukundo Dev Government Music college to mark the occasion.
