Centre should strengthen anti-terror legal framework
New Delhi, Jul 26 (UNI) Strongly condemning the successive serial blasts at Bangalore yesterday and Ahmedabad today, Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader L K Advani today urged the Prime Minister to think of strengthening anti-terrorist legal framework to make the campaign against terror more meaningful.
Commenting on the serial blasts Mr Advani, who is also a Lok Sabha Member from Ahmedabad, said the blasts should be a matter of concern not only for the BJP but for the whole country.
Asked if the two attacks were aimed at unnerving the BJP ruled states, he said he would not come to any such conclusion at this stage but the serial blasts were certainly a matter of concern and the Intelligence agencies should also probe into this angle.
He said he might visit Ahmedabad tomorrow but he would want the authorities to deal with the situation.
He said Gujarat government had been pressing the Home Ministry for grant of Presidential assent for the anti-terror law, which was passed by the State Assembly four years ago. The BJP had been pressing the Government, inside and outside the Parliament, to allow the state to have its own legal framework to counter incidents of terror.
The least the Centre can do to extend help the states, was by granting anti-terror legislations to them to act not just as a deterrent, but also as a strong force, as is being done in Maharashtra. Rajasthan too was making similar demand, he added.
