Centre plans medical college for wards of workers
Bangalore, Jul 26 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes today said his department proposed to start medical colleges for the wards of the working class, beginning with Karnataka.
Talking to reporters here, he said the scheme would be funded by the ESI Corporation to start medical collages in all the States.
Stating that the Union Health Ministry had cleared the scheme, he said construction of the medical college would be completed in just 18 months if the land was provided by the State Government immediately.
Karnataka Labour Minister B N Bachchegowda, who was also present, said he would talk to the Chief Minister about providing land in the city.
Mr Fernandes said the Kerala Government had come forward to provide land.
He said the department had planned to open a new hospital for industrial workers at Peenya in the city.
